Details

An Indian summer invites us to the annual Oxford v Cambridge Croquet match on Sunday, 17th October, from 10.45 onwards, warm-up  and tournament.

The match will take place at the usual venue: the croquet lawn on the lakeside, immediately in front of the hotel Château du Lac, Avenue du Lac 87, 1332 Genval. All croquet equipment will be provided. The dress code is straightforward: flat-soled shoes, trainers or tennis shoes, (de rigueur, to avoid damaging the lawns); it’s traditional to wear white.

A trophy is awarded to the winning side.  No experience is required, just enthusiasm and gamesmanship.

We hope you (and as many friends as you can rustle up) will join us at this convivial social event. If you plan to come, please register by sending an email to president@camsoc.be

As in previous years, we plan to welcome players and supporters to join us, after the match, for the optional lunch (pay as you go) at the restaurant La Laguna.

Our Illustrious Captain of Croquet, Alastair Paice, will be welcoming you.

Access by car

20 km southeast of Brussels, off the E411 to Luxembourg to Avenue du Lac 87, 1332 Genval.

Access by train

At present, the website indicates a direct train, on 27 September, leaving the Brussels-Luxembourg station at 9.27am and arriving at Genval station at 10.17am. Do please check the SNCB website nearer the time. An earlier train (8.27am) allows for a pre-match coffee at the lakeside Chateau du Lac.

Mini Event Report

Sad to say the “other place” won 45:35 but we both had a huge turnout and a great deal of fun.

The weather was amazing for the season.

We were especially proud to be able to pass the new croquet cup to Oxford which we have named the “Sorgo-Camu Croquet Cup” after the two founders of our annual tournament Poznan Sorgo,(Quote from Guy “An accolade richly deserved for the doyen of the Society”) and Alain Camu from Oxford.

Thanks to our Illustrious Captain of Croquet, Alastair Paice and all who participated.

We had a great croquet match and a great lunch at the Laguna. All good spirits. Looking forward to thrashing Oxford next year!
