25th September 2014, 18:45hrs Speaker evening with two talks relating to the First World War


The Society of the 'other' place extends the following invitation to our members.


The Oxford Society in Belgium is holding an event which consists of two short talks in the context of the current celebration of the centenary of the start of the 1st World War.  The speakers and talks are as


follows:


-          Andrew Brown, on the life of Edith Cavell and celebration centenary events planned for next year (she was executed in 1915)


-          Prof UCL Emmanuel De Bruyne, on the subject of the Resistance in Belgium in 1st World War


This event will take place in the evening of Thursday 25 September, with a drinks reception at 18.45 followed by the talks plus Q&A starting at 19.15/19.30 and ending just before 21.00, when there will be an opportunity to have dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Non members of the Societies will be asked to contribute Euro 5 to the Oxford Society’s funds.


In addition, Andrew Brown has asked for voluntary contributions to his Edith Cavell 2015 centenary events fund (contributions already from Uccle commune, German embassy, Cavell nurses trust, Holy Trinity church).
