Annual Dinner 28th January 2009

Dear Members,

We are most pleased to invite you to the annual dinner of the Cambridge Society of Belgium to be held on Wednesday 28th January 2009.

This year’s dinner is a cause of a double celebration. In 2009 Cambridge University celebrates its 800th anniversary with many activities being organized around the world. And on the 28th January 2009 the Cambridge Society of Belgium reaches its 15th birthday.

The location for the dinner will be the popular Club des Guides, rue d’Arlon, 32, near Place Luxembourg. The timing will be 19.00 for aperitifs and 20.00 for dinner. The dress code will be evening dress or dark suits.

This year's speaker will be Dr Huw Lewis-Jones, a curator of art (full PROFILE). Having taken a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Cambridge and a Master of Philosophy at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, Huw began reading for a Doctor of Philosophy in October 2002. Huw was a Visiting Fellow, Department of the History of Science, at Harvard University in 2003, and Curator of Imperial and Maritime History at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London during 2006-2007.

Dr Huw Lewis-Jones will address us on the subject of Polar Exploration and Photography.

We would like all members to be able to attend. The ticket prices are unchanged on last year. The regular ticket price is €60/head and, for our members under the age of 30, the price is €40/head. Any other member facing particular financial hardship may apply (on a confidential basis) for a complimentary place.

Please confirm your attendance to Luis Cuero-Spottorno on the following e-mail address: luis.cuervo-spottorno@ec.europa.eu and make your payment to the Cambridge Society bank account  (776-5978534-36) mentioning "Annual Dinner".

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Tank
