Annual Dinner, Monday 26th January 2015 PHOTOS

Dear Members,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the annual dinner of the Cambridge Society - in the company of H.E. Alison Rose (Newnham) H.M. Ambassador to Belgium - will be held on the evening of Monday 26th January 2015 from 19hrs.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Alain Wijffels as our guest and speaker. Graduated in philosophy, law, criminology, canon law, Roman law and medieval history, Alain has a PhD and DLitt from Cambridge (Caius, Churchill, Trinity Hall) as well as Dr. jur. (Amsterdam). After several years of academic research, mainly in Italy, Germany and England, he is presently working and teaching at universities in Belgium (KUL, LLN), France (Lille-2/CNRS) and Holland (Leiden). He has published some two hundred studies, and his main area of interest is comparative legal history, particularly in the area of public governance and the courts’ practice in several Western European legal systems, with an emphasis on the structure and workings of complex jurisdictions.

Professor Wijffels’ talk is loosely titled "England and the German Hanse: the Long Endgame”.

We are most pleased that the dinner will again be held at the "Club des Officers du Premier Regiment de Guides", (32, rue d'Arlon, Brussels 1000, close to Luxembourg Station).

We would like all members to feel they can attend (partners welcome, if space allows!). Accordingly, whilst the full ticket price for members & their partners is €60/head,  we would like to offer two special concessions. Firstly a special price for members under 30 of €40/head and secondly the possibility of attendance subsidised by society funds if anyone should be in a position of genuine need (please apply accordingly). The price for non-member (non-partner) Cantabrigians is €70.

Please reply to this e-mail to confirm your attendance to the Secretary, Caroline Laske, by Monday 19.01.2015 and make your payment to the Cambridge Society bank account (BE 84 3770 0232 0559 in the name of Vierlich-Jürcke) mentioning "Annual Dinner 2015 + name" before that date. Your participation is confirmed once your payment has been received. (Please note, that no refunds for cancellations can be made after 21.01.2015.)

Dress is black tie or smart evening dress.

On behalf of all the Committee,

Yours sincerely,

Rupert Carter

P.S. The Society will, as tradition now dictates, donate a case of Port.
