“Just Kurt” recital - 9th & 22nd September 2013

The long awaited summer fulfilled its promise and spoiled us with the most beautiful weather, which makes it that more difficult to return to our daily routine. According to Camus, autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower and the CamSoc Committee is working hard to add more colour to this rich palette by preparing an exciting programme for the coming months.

The first event features our Captain of Music, Andrew Wise (piano), presenting together with Penelope Turner (voice) their new programme of Kurt Weill songs from the 1930s and 1940s:

"Just Kurt"

at the Archiduc Café, Antoine Dansaert 6, 1000 Brussels

Monday 9th September 2013 at 21:00hrs and

Sunday 22nd September 2013 at 17:00hrs

Berlin theatre songs, 1940s Broadway hits and French chansons à texte: the golden thread is the music of Kurt Weill, whose brilliant settings enhance the bite of the elegant and provocative texts provided by Bert Brecht, Ira Gershwin, Ogden Nash and Maurice Magre. Penelope and Andrew’s tried and tested double-act is perfect for this music. Their interpretation is modern and sassy; a high-quality musical performance combines with a pithy text-biased approach: a perfect new setting for a string of vintage pearls.

The Archiduc is an Art Deco café on the stylish rue Antoine Dansaertstr in the centre of Brussels. Since the 1950s the Archiduc has been known for its intimate jazz events; and with its original 1930s features and classy atmosphere it provides the perfect setting for the interpretation of these Berlin theatre and Broadway songs by Kurt Weill.

Entrance price is 10 euro. It is not possible to reserve in advance and, as there is limited space, I would recommend coming a little early to get a good seat. (See also: www.archiduc.net/en/events or www.penelopeturner.com)
