Oxford and Cambridge in Luxembourg 28-30 June 2013

As previously announced, our colleagues from the Oxford University Society of Luxembourg have put together a fabulous programme for a week-end visit to Luxembourg. You can find all the relevant information in the documents attached below, including registrations and bookings.

The Oxford University Society in Luxembourg (OUSL) is delighted to invite members of Oxford and Cambridge Associations in Belgium and the Netherlands to an Oxford and Cambridge Reunion weekend in Luxembourg, which shall take place on 28-30 June 2013. Our friends from the Cambridge Society of Luxembourg will be present as well.


The Oxford University Society in Luxembourg is inviting members of Oxford and Cambridge Societies in Belgium and the Netherlands to a reunion weekend in Luxembourg which will take place on 28-30 June 2013. Our friends from the Cambridge Society of Luxembourg will be present as well. The programme will include a tour of the city’s main sights (download the City Tourist brochure), visits to art collections, a private tour of the Musée Dräi Eechelen, a concert (see the brochure) and a formal dinner. The provisional programme is as follows:


Friday, 28 June:

On Friday evening we will organise a “pub crawl” through some of Luxembourg’s best known cafés and clubs in the picturesque “Grund” area and the “Rives de Clausen”.

For those of a less lively disposition we will arrange a table or two at a typical and charming Luxembourgish restaurant in the city.


Saturday, 29 June:
Reunion of the Benelux alumni in the morning to get to know each other. Tours have been arranged thanks to OUSL members as follows:

 City Museum & Archives,

 The old City. A reservation for lunch will be made (cost included in weekend fee)

 The European Investment Bank, art collection,

 In the evening we will organise a concert "SONNETS TO SUNDRY NOTES OF MUSIC" with
British countertenor Christopher Robson who is also a “Kammersänger” (German honorific title for distinguished singers) in Bavaria.
Robson and a lute player will perform his Shakespeare and John Donne Sonnets programme (see www.oxford.lu/events.htm for programme that he did at the Teamtheater in Munich a few years ago). There will be a collection in favour of the Luxembourg branch of “SOS Villages d’enfants” (https://www.sosve.lu/). This Charity, whose patron is HRH Grand-Duchess Maria-Teresa, provides shelter, medical care and education for over 80.000 children in more than 133 countries.

The concert will be followed by a black tie (or lounge suit) dinner at the “Cercle Munster” (http://www.munster.lu/), Luxembourg’s oldest private club. The guest of honour and speaker will be HE The Hon Alice Walpole (MA Cantab), Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador in Luxembourg.


Sunday, 30 June:

 Luxembourg’s fortress museum (Musee Drai Eechelen) and national identity exhibition. Further information can be found in the 2013 Luxembourg City brochure (attached) and on http://Ilux.uni.lu .

 For those staying a little bit longer, OUSL members will be happy to show them around further parts of the city including The European Quarter (depending on numbers).

 A walking tour amongst the vineyards along the Moselle. Subject to demand we may be able to arrange a wine tasting and lunch at one of the wineries.
