Amartya Sen Lecture: Lord Browne

3rd May 2007

Dear Members,

The Cambridge Society of Belgium is pleased to announce that it is co-hosting the second talk and discussion in the series of Amartya Sen Lectures on Sustainable Development, at 18.30hrs on 3rd May 2007.  The lecture follows the successful inaugural lecture of the series in 2006, which many members of the Society attended.

Professor Amartya Sen, Nobel Prize laureate in economics and former Master of Trinity, will again be present, and the lecture – entitled   Energy and the Environment –  will be delivered by Lord Browne, group chief executive of BP, ranked no. 5 in the latest Financial Times Global 500 list of the largest businesses in the world. It will be one of Lord Browne’s last major public speeches before he retires this summer, and we are proud that he has chosen to give it here, and in the presence of Professor Sen.  Both will be on the podium for the subsequent discussion.

Attendance is by invitation only, and all members of the Society are welcome, once again subject only to a capacity limit to the large conference hall offered to us for the event.

There is no charge, and details appear on the attached. Early registration is advised, via http://www.sen-lecture.eu . For any other questions, Raymond Schonfeld, Cambridge Society member and co-organizer of the event, may be contacted at europe.link@skynet.be

We hope that you will be able to join us at this event and look forward to seeing you there.

Yours faithfully,

Rupert Carter
